Future [past]

A.I + Video.

Exhibited in Ars Electronica Festival 2023: Who owns the truth?

The technical refinement of Artificial Intelligence and the datified condition of the image has led us to inhabit a world where the near instant and the distant event can be anticipated. The prediction of the immediate and near future is a reality. Future[past] is a video that aims to reflect on predictability in relation to technology based on various footage of historical events that have already occurred, which become future ones thanks to processing by GANS Pix2Pix. This image processing makes it possible to predict the next frame of a video based on the previous content.

The A.I, in an exercise of algorithmic prediction, imagines multiple new possible past futures, events that only occurred in the visual simulation presented to us, but which become images that threaten to become reality in our present.

In the eyes of progress, the past is the immovable, the immutable, the stoic. It is a crystallised mineral, a set of substrates formed from the continuous sedimentation of history. It is an exponential segment in continuous growing. And all the points that form that line we call "History" are known as events; Blessed and sacred events. Blessed and sacred events that have shaped our world as it is today. How can we get rid from History? From that blessed, sacred and solid History laden with unalterable meanings that construct the hegemonic narrative?

Future[past] is a speculative device sent to Earth to process the past and transform futures. By means of a system based on Artificial Intelligence, our system allows us to disarticulate any symbolic load inserted in the event to be chosen.
